Inu were the dog spirits Hengoyokai. [1] They were loyal and fierce and could bond themselves to a human being worthy of their friendship. Inu had enhanced senses, including the ability to detect other spirits or beings that had travelled to spirit realms. Inu themselves originated in Chikushudo and they were extraordinary resiliant. [2] The most curious attribute of inu was their preference for the company of mortals over other spirits. [3] The Rokugani used as charms a wooden dog to protect children, the inuhariko. [4]
