The Imperial Taster was charged with the duty of tasting the Emperor's food before it was eaten by the Emperor, to prevent poisoning.
Bayushi Togai[]
The Imperial Taster in 1123 was Bayushi Togai. He had been maneuvered into the position because of being a descendant of Agasha Kitsuki, so that he would survive the poison that weakened Emperor Hantei XXXVIII moments before Bayushi Shoju killed him and began the Scorpion Coup. [1]
