Ikoma Tsanuri was a commander of the Lion, daughter of the Ikoma Daimyō Ikoma Anakazu. [1]

Demeanor[]

Tsanuri was a patient woman; she earned her name as a child, when she stood atop a black viper for hours to prevent it from striking and killing her. [2] Since then she was also known as Little Viper. Tsanuri's natural skill earned her a rapid advancement within the Akodo War College. [1]

Rebuked[]

After the return of the Unicorn Clan to Rokugan they were engaged with the Lion Clan regarding the property of the ancestral lands of the Ki-Rin. After three years working toward a peace with the Lion Clan, [3] Champion Akodo Arasou had brokered a treaty. Anakazu had to dissolve his marriage in order he might wed to Shinjo Altansarnai, the Unicorn Clan Champion. Anakazu was ordered to forswear his family, and Tsanuri lost him as a father. Her mother visited Altansarnai and had convinced the Unicorn Champion to break the marriage arrangement. [4]

Station[]

Tsanuri was appointed as commander of a Lion force, patrolling the area south to the Drowned Merchant River, in 1123. In the middle of the disputed territory west of Toshi Ranbo, not far from the Lion city of Oiku, she intercepted a Dragon army commanded by Togashi Mitsu, an ise zumi Tsanuri had met once, years ago, not long after she returned from a stint among the Unicorn. She granted them safe passage so long as they did not interfere their conflict with the Crane, continued eastward and did not turn back. [2] His forces had been passively patrolling the border, monitoring travelers and intimidating any Unicorn contingents that wandered too close. The Lion and Unicorn were not officially at war, but Shinjo Altansarnai's aggression and the lack of proper Lion leadership had shortened the supply lines of the Lion. His lord Ikoma Anakazu sent Ikoma Ayano to meet Tsanuri, and ordered him to take the nearby Unicorn village of Onon for supplies. The plan devised by Ikoma Ujiaki had not reported that the Unicorn reserved Onon as a tax holding, so when Lion forces raided the village, decimating the local peasant militia, Tsanuri commadded to leave the portion meant for taxes. [5] Tsanuri led her large contingent of samurai and ashigaru pushing forward into Unicorn lands, taking each village she descended upon, such as Springbloom Village or Ashige Village, expediting her advance into the heart of Ikoku Province. General Akodo Kyōsuke led the Lion reserves to defeat the vanguard of the Miname Kaze in the Battle of the Plains of Bloodied Honor. [6] In the ensuing fights Kyōsuke had lost a critical village to the Unicorn and was captured in the process, while Tsanuri won the day on the Battle of Four Roads. [1]

Tsanuri met Lady Tsuko near Toshi Ranbo, who told Bayushi Shoju had violently seized control of the Forbidden City with an army of Imperial Legionnaires led by Ambassador Ujiaki and loyal Scorpions. He sat upon the Emerald Throne, having murdered the Emperor and declared himself in league with the Shadowlands. Tsanuri reported Ujiaki had manipulated events to drive her armies toward further aggression toward the Unicorn, in order to advance his own agenda. Tsuko ordered to recall Tsanuri's soldiers from the Unicorn front and readied them to march on the capital, alongside with Tsuko's army. Tsanuri was entrusted to meet the Unicorn Clan Champion Shinjo Altansarnai in order to cease hostilities and join the Lion against the usurpers at Otosan Uchi. [1] In the presence of her Lady, Tsanuri convinced Altansarnai to join the Lion in their attack against Ujiaki and Shoju, during their assault upon Otosan Uchi. [4] In the 18th day of the Month of Hida an assembled army of Crane, Lion, Phoenix, Scorpion, and Unicorn samurai began the assault of the capital. The Army of the Rising Waves joined them, quarreling the usurpers within the Forbidden City. In the fifth Day of the Month of Togashi they received word from the Crab that Hida Kisada had fallen, and Akuma no Oni's horde marched across their provinces with the discipline of a well-trained Shadowlands army. During the assault of the Forbidden City Tsanuri fought against the ghosts that emerged from the ground, the souls bound to the Enchanted Wall. [7] Eventually the traitor Shoju was killed and Kakita Yoshi was reinstated as Imperial Regent. [8]

Reunited[]

In the Month of Ryoshun Tsanuri left Sacred Watch Palace to be reunited with her parents Ikoma Anakazu and Akari after Matsu Tsuko reversed the couple's divorce. [8]
