Ikoma Teidei was a bushi and duelist of the Lion Clan who became a ronin, rejoining the Lion Clan they day he died.

Ronin[]

Teidei was a young and promising samurai whose daimyo was executed by an assassin. Teidei became a ronin and spent the next seven years hunting the man responsible. [1]

Kenku Training[]

It was said that during his quest Teidei was taught as a duelist by a kenku teacher, Kozue. [1]

Death[]

Years later, he discovered the assassin was none other than his lord’s own brother. [2] In the end he tracked him down to Mura sano Eiyu ni Suru, seeing his lord's killer within a local inn, where he killed the assassin, but was cut by the dishonorable Lion's poisoned blade. Teidei meditated for a whole day, and news of his deeds reached the Ikoma Daimyo, who reinstated him as an Ikoma. The following sunrise Teidei committed seppuku to join his master before the venom overtook him. [1]

Shrine[]

A shrine stood in the village in his memory, [3] [4] the Shrine of Duty. [1] The shrine was considered a holy site to the Zocho, the South Wind. [5] Teidei was considered one of the great names of the Lion Clan history. [6]

Festival[]

The Festival of the Wandering Hero was celebrated each year, on the fifth day of the month of the Rooster, to honor his memory. [1]

Alternate story[]

Other sources said that the Lion Clan Champion ordered him to take command of the village, reinstating him, being his debt to his lord repaid, and his honor restored. He died in battle many years later. [5]
