Ikoma Hiroshika a courtier of the Lion Clan.

Imperial Court[]

Hiroshika was a familiar face in the Imperial Court in Otosan Uchi, appearing frequently before the Throne to argue the finer points of what qualified as war within the Empire. Whether a dispute centered on land, resources, or a real or perceived injustice or insult, the Lion Clan was eager to demonstrate it was not to be trifled with. When its targets brought their grievances to court, Hiroshika argued that what they claim was a war was nothing more than a disagreement, a skirmish, or a “matter of restoring honor,” requiring no Imperial involvement. [1]

Tensions with the Unicorn[]

In 1123 tensions between the Lion and Unicorn clans escalated into a border conflict near the City of the Rich Frog. The Unicorn asserted that the Lion aggression constituted an illegal war and had taken the matter to Imperial Court. Hiroshika constructed a strong legal case in defense of the Lion. However, Otomo Shin, an Imperial legal scholar, contended that Hiroshika's argument was based on a document (housed in the Military Library at the Castle of the Swift Sword) that might have been improperly transcribed. The original was in a library at Kyūden Tonbo, in the custody of the Dragonfly Clan. The Dragonfly, reluctant to risk provoking their short-tempered Lion neighbors, dragged their feet about the matter. A group of samurai were tasked by Shin to obtain the original document and compare it with the one found at the Castle of the Swift Sword. [2]
