Ikoma Eiji

Ikoma Eiji

Ikoma Eiji was a courtier and historian of the Lion Clan. [1]

Osari Plains[]

The Osari Plains was a Crane territory contested by the Lion. These lands had been occupied by the Lion just for three generations before they had returned to Crane control two turns of seasons ago. In 1123 Kakita Asami and her yojimbo Kakita Kaezin moved to Lion lands to discuss the matter with Eiji, in presence of his own yojimbo, Matsu Beiona. Asami was disheartened when Eiji told that a band of ronin had slaughtered the defenders of the Osari village of Shirei Mura. Doji Kuwanan, a prominent samurai and childhood friend of Asami, was part of the Crane forces at Shirei, and presumed dead. If the Lion overcame the ronin first, they would get the Emperor's favor regarding the control of the plains. Eiji informed that Asami and her retinue were hostages until negotiations in Otosan Uchi had finished. [1] Eiji was not present when his lord Matsu Seishin was outmanouvered by Bayushi Iwane, and he was forced to release Asami as a hostage to the Lion. Eiji had been dispatched the previous week to settle a small dispute with Seishin's Ikoma neighbor to the west. [2]

Kotoku[]

By happenstance Eiji recognized a fine spear as Kotoku, the lost ancestral weapon of the Daidoji. [3]

Researching the Kitsu[]

Eiji moved to the Temple of Listening Ghosts, and he sought permission from the Kitsu Daimyō to live there in the hope of learning more about the history of the Kitsu family, and their forebears. He wished the kitsu spirits would grant him knowledge to add to the official histories. He petitioned the Head Monk Kitsu Shizuka for help, but she only told him to listen. [4]

Emperor's Death[]

Eiji was eventually appointed in the Imperial Court, with his companion Ikoma Ujiaki. After a series of disturbing events, which included Hantei the Thirty-Eighth's death, the disappearance of the Lion Clan Champion Akodo Toturi, altogether with Prince Hantei Daisetsu, and the shugenja Iuchi Shahai, the acting Emerald Champion Agasha Sumiko appointed the Scorpion Clan Champion Bayushi Shoju as the Imperial Regent, as it was written by Toturi in an Imperial Edict sealed by the late Emperor himself.
