Ikiryo

Ikiryo

Ikiryo were spirits often attached to specific families, with some being friendly protectors, and others being hostile to all they encountered. They were the spirits of guardians who failed at their duty and were doomed to spend eternity making up for their failure. They guarded their charges unerringly, attacking anything that came close to the person or object they protected.

Appearance

Ikiryo appeared as wispy darkened spirits garbed in the ghostly tatters of the clothing or armor they had worn in life, fading away at the waist. They were often found guarding tombs, protecting the corpses of those they had failed to protect in life. Ikiryo were vengeful spirits who detested all forms of life, but they particularly hated anyone who resembled those who had caused their downfall.

Tainted

Ikiryo were particularly susceptible to the evil taint of the Shadowlands, and many of them fell under the control of this influence only a short time after their creation.
