Hida Yakamo was the eldest child of the Crab Clan Champion Hida Kisada. Hida Sukune was his brother and Hida O-Ushi was his sister. [1]
Demeanor[]
Yakamo was quick to anger, very hot headed and would speak in a frank and direct manner. His battlefield prowess was unquestioned. When entering the fray he often wielded a tetsubo in one hand. Yakamo had difficulties to restrain his bloodlust in battle. [1]
Sworn Enemy[]
Eventually Yakamo crushed the head of Mirumoto Satsu, [2] the Mirumoto hatamoto's son over a minor insult, [3] and his eight-years-old sister, Mirumoto Hitomi, tried to challenge Yakamo, becoming his sworn enemy. [4]
Phoenix Interference[]
In 1123 Yakamo questioned Asako Tsuki, who had been captured by a patrol after she had put to the torch the secret laboratory of Kuni Yori, the place where the Kuni Daimyō researched the powers of their eternal enemies of the Shadowlands. Accused of being a mahō-tsukai who had destroyed valuable knowledge, Tsuki threw herself through a window of her cell, dropping into the waters of the Earthquake Fish Bay, instead to wait for torture of arriving Kuni Witch Hunters. Yakamo sent soldiers to find her body or chase Tsuki if she remained alive. [3]
The Wall is Breached[]
The hordes of Akuma no Oni breached through the Kaiu Wall and overrun the Crab defenses, marching northwest, to the Shinomen Forest. Kisada was wounded during the defense of the Castle of the Forgotten, a spear broke through his armor and pierced his belly. He delegated command on Sukune, who assembled the forces of the Crab and several Minor Clans in the shores of the Cherry Blossom Snow Lake. Yakamo entrusted the plan devised by his brother to halt the Shadowlands menace. The Phoenix Clan army led by Shiba Tsukune joined them, [5] and four days later the Dragon Clan army led by Togashi Yokuni did the same. The next day the Battle of Cherry Blossom Snow began, and the Rokugani forces were bolstered by the arrival of the Crane army led by Daidoji Uji. [6] A Lion army led by Matsu Tsuko also joined the fight. [7] Akuma no Oni took the field, confronting the defenders, and the demon killed Togashi Yokuni. [8] Forced to reveal himself on the battlefield, the Oni Lord was confronted and killed by Shiba Tsukune. [9] Shortly after Yakamo was met by his secret lover, Kaiu Fusao, and revealed their love in front of the rest of samurai. [10]
