Hida Banuken was a Crab Clan Champion.
Family[]
Banuken's third son, Hida Bokaru, was seriously wounded in 715 at the Battle of Tidal Landbridge. [1]
Maw's Invasion[]
Banuken led the Crab in the defense against The Maw at the Battle of the Cresting Wave in 716. The success of the defense was thanks to the sacrifice of Kuni Osaku, who provided Banuken with the time he needed to set up the defenses. [2] Kaiu Haruko designed the Kaiu Wall and the logistics of its construction in four days, while the work itself lasted other fifty-six days. [3] The shugenja had used and maintained the River of the Last Stand for months. When the shugenja's will broke Banuken's army was ready. [4]
Damned[]
The Maw's forces were decimated, and the massive oni itself fell before the might of Banuken's army. [5] He had placed many tainted Crab in a single unit as a temporary measure during the final days of the siege. It was this unit that finally confronted and destroyed the Maw. Banuken honored their sacrifice and founded the Damned with the survivors, despite the concern of the leader of the Kuni Witch Hunters, Kuni Bakin. [6] The Kuni Daimyo committed seppuku in protest. [7]
