Heart of Mortality was a Mastery 2 water spell which allowed the shugenja to create a bond between the caster and any one willing target. The caster would know where the target was, and could cast any spell on him if the distance is less than a mile. If the distance exceeded a mile the spell would instantly break. [1] The Hidden Guard had cast it upon the Emperor so that their magic could protect him even when they were not present. [2]
