Hantei XXIII was the twenty third Emperor of Rokugan.
Youth[]
During his childhood, during a visit to Kyuden Doji, the Imperial Heir fled the courts and spent the night in the woods outside the walls of the castle. When the Seppun guardsmen found him the next morning in the Eye of the Needle, he was unhurt and told a tale that a silver fox had kept him company, bringing him berries and singing him songs. None believed the child, but they could not refute the Imperial Heir. [1]
Marriage[]
In 811 the Crane Clan Champion, Doji Ryobu, unexpectedly won the tournament of the Emerald Champion. Hantei XXII announced his son would marry Ryobu's sister, allowing the Crane maintain a strong position in a political climate dominated by the Scorpion and Lion. [2] He eventually married her when his brother had become the new Crane Clan Champion. [3]
Emperor[]
Hantei XXIII became Emperor in 821. [4]
Protection of the Forest[]
One of the first acts of Hantei the XXIII was to declare Eye of the Needle forest to be sacrosent. The Crane honored this and had, as such, inadvertantly protected an active passage to the spirit animal realm of Chikushudo, for his story had been completely true. [1]
Curiosities[]
It was known that Hantei XXIII once owned the Hantei's Tessen. [5] He was also a noted painter [3] and it was rumored that Hantei XXIII refused ever to bathe. [6]
