Hanemuri
Hanemuri were small crow-sized creatures that inhabited the treetops of the Shadowlands forests.
They had bony bodies covered in parchment-like skin and possessed wings like those of bats. Their jaws were lined with dozens of tiny needle-sharp teeth.
Alone they were shy and skittish, but in larger groups Hanemuri would form swarms and attack anything or anyone entering their territory. Individual Hanemuri were easily killed but too agile to be caught easily. When they attacked in numbers sufficient to overwhelm an individual samurai, the Shadowlands expert Kuni Mokuna's guide advised that the beleaguered samurai should drop and roll on the ground, which would effectively crush a large number of them. Hanemuri were ravenous creatures. They only remained in an area if there was a promise of food or battle. [2]
