Nemuranai |
The Gunsen of Water was the third of the Elemental Nemuranai, taking the form of a gunsen, created by Iuchi Yogosha and Asako Shingon in 1127 with the Oracles of Light guidance during the Clan War. [1]
Appearance[]
The gunsen was large and imposing, colored deep blue, and carved with the image of waves. Over the years, it was seen to take the form of a court fan when such was appropriate to the situation, though with the same coloration and decoration. [2]
Abilities[]
The Gunsen provided the protection and power of the Water Dragon. When used as a fan, the Gunsen took on the shape of a fan appropriated to its environment, from an intricate fan for a Scorpion's courtier to a tessen fit for the Akodo. It transmitted its strength to its user and gave protection against the water spells. [3]
History[]
Crafting[]
For months Yogosha and Shingon sought out the perfect location for each Elemental Weapon to be crafted. [4] They found the correct place in a valley near the Castle of the Faithful Bride. [5] For days, Shingon coaxed the kami to occupy the item, slowly infusing it with the essence of an element. Then Yogosha would use his knowledge of Meishodo to erode the object's true name while Shingon contained the kami. The two worked in tandem to craft a katana, a set of armor, a gunsen, a yari, and the last, a mempo, the one of the Void element. To finish the creation of the last nemuranai, they both concluded they would have to give their lives. With that sacrifice the balance was restored between dark, the Elemental Terrors, and light, the Elemental Nemuranai. [6]
Delivered[]
The Gunsen was delivered to Bayushi Goshiu, the only Scorpion courtier allowed to remain in the Imperial Court after the Scorpion Coup. A group of samurai were visited by a disguised Oracle of Water, and Goshiu bestowed the gunsen to them. The Elemental Terror of Fire, Taki-bi no Oni, had been raiding caravans in its quest to find the gunsen. The gunsen was returned after the group too care of the oni. [7]
Lost[]
When Hantei XXXIX revealed himself as the vessel of Fu Leng, Goshiu was imprisoned and stripped of his possessions, including the Gunsen of Water. There were no ofcial records of the Gunsen's fate afterward. [8]
