The Gift of the Emperor was a tournament held by the Emperor himself.
Toturi I's Tournament[]
In 1132 Toturi held a contest after he returned from his kidnapping, to win a boon from the Jade Throne. All clans were invited to attend, each sending one candidate. The winner of the contest, a ronin entered by the Dragon Clan, was revealed to be Bayushi Aramoro in disguise. [1] He had defeated Mirumoto Uso in the finals. [2]
Aramoro's request[]
Aramoro requested as his prize that his clan be allowed to retake their lands. Toturi signed an Imperial Edict, but Ryoko Owari was out of the agreement and would remain a Unicorn stronghold. [1] [3]
"Give me rule over the Scorpion lands, below the bloody waters of Mizu-Umi no Fuko."
-Bayushi Aramoro [4]

It was the beginning of the Dragon-Scorpion Alliance. [5]
Iweko Seiken's Tournament[]
In 1200 Iweko Seiken was selected to become the new Emperor. Shortly before his coronation, a Gift of the Emperor tournament was held in his birthday. Hida Taisho won one of the tournament events, and Daidoji Yurei was the final winner. [6]
