Furthest Fortress (TCG)

Furthest Fortress

Furthest Fortress, carved into the side of Furthest Fortress Mountain, was among the most remote outposts of the Dragon Clan. Spiraling deep into the heart of the mountain, a staircase led to an ancient vault that was sealed with a massive puzzle-box lock, said to be designed by Togashi himself. The answer to this puzzle, known as The Last Riddle, was the only way to open the vault. [1] Officially, the fortress was constructed at the direction of the Dragon Clan Champion at the entrance to one of the very few passes in the mountains, to guard it. [2]

Appearance[]

Journey to Furthest Fortress was only possible during the summer, and it was only accessible from a single, narrow trail,. Constructed of dour, grey stone, it loomed over the pass from atop a rocky ridge thrust out from the flank of Second Mountain, the penultimate peak in the Empire. A curtain wall surrounded it; within, a keep-like structure towered high enough to allow for surveillance of the entire surrounding region. [2]

Monks[]

Furthest Fortress was home to a militant sect of Togashi monks known the Northern Watch, who adopted a military-like organization, focusing the vast majority of their training on martial arts and the use of weapons. They would defend the Last Riddle with their lives. Those who came there were generally housed in a separate outbuilding located just outside the temple gate; only select individuals were allowed within the confines of the walls. [3]

Yobanjin[]

Yobanjin from the north, aside from occasional, small raids, had not attacked the Empire in the past several hundred years, and they represented most of the visitors to Furthest Fortress, coming her to trade with the monks and seek temporary shelter during inclement weather. [4]
