The Four Vows of the Shinseism were considered central to a monk's duties by all the sects of the Brotherhood of Shinsei. They were listed in the Book of Duties alongside with many other vows: to save all living beings, to eliminate defilements, to learn Shinsei's teachings, and to seek enlightenment. [1]
