
Emerald Champion in full armor
The Emerald Champion was a relevant badge of office in the Emerald Empire: [1] the Emperor's personal champion, commander of the Imperial Legions, and most senior magistrate of Rokugan. [2] He was the chief enforcer of the Emperor's law [3] and therefore also its chief tax collector, [4] overseeing the ministries of the Imperial bureaucracy as the Emperor's chief administrator. [5]

The Palace of the Emerald Champion was the personal estate of the Emerald Champion. [6] The Emerald Armor was its most recognizable symbol of authority. [7]
Emerald Tournament[]
Emerald Champions were selected thorugh a contest, the Emerald Tournament. [8] Kakita was the first Emerald Champion. [9] When Hantei the Third decided to appoint an acting Emerald Champion, the incumbent committed seppuku in protest. [10]
