Elemental Guard were shugenja skilled in combat extremely powerful in the way of the elements. They forsake all other magics but that of their own element. They were composed only by Phoenix shugenja. [1] Each Guard had his own dedicated Elemental Legion, Shiba trained to accompany, assist, and fight side by side with the Guard. [2]
They had special names depending upon their elemental alignment.

- Hurricane Initiates - Air - Fifth Phoenix Legion of the Shiba Army
- Tsunami Legion - Water - Seventh Phoenix Legion of the Shiba Army
The Void Guard (Void) was a generally unknown order within the already secretive Ishiken. [3]
