Ebisu (TCG)

Ebisu (TCG)

Ebisu was the Fortune of Honest Work, one of the Seven Fortunes, [1] guide of laborers, bureaucrats, and others who toiled. [2] He was a good friend of Daikoku, though far more mercurial. He taught that luck comes to the diligent most of all. He was a wandering fisherman by trade, representing the oldest job in all of Rokugan, which sustained humans before they learned to plant and harvest grain. He wore archaic clothes and carried a fishing rod and a big fish he had recently caught. Fisherfolk who found a stone among the fish in their nets venerated it with offerings of food and drink, since legend has it that such a stone was Ebisu in disguise. Ebisu was the only major Fortune who did not have shintai in his shrines; there were icons of him, but he did not live therein, preferring to reside in the sea and take the form of a whale. While Ebisu had shugenja, he did not speak to them in his voice, and he was hard of hearing, so he was not beseeched with prayers spoken aloud, but with clapping and the ringing of bells. Ebisu's monks, while they payed lip service to Shinseism, were the furthest from orthodox Shinseists in their practices and traditions. [3]
