Dharma was the soul duty of a Rokugani, their destiny and place in the Celestial Order. [1] [2] So long as that destiny went unfulfilled, the soul would be reborn. Only when dharma was completed was the soul permitted to shuffle off the Celestial Wheel and enter Yomi, the Realm of the Sacred Ancestors. The bonge's dharma was to work the land and obey the samurai, and it was the samurai's duty to protect the heimin and administer the Empire. [3]
