The Day of Thunder was the battle that ended the War Against Fu Leng. On that day, the Seven Thunders, with Shinsei guiding them, entered the Shadowlands and marched deep into the territory of the Dark Kami, Fu Leng, where they found the Temple of the Ninth Kami. The battle was terrible, and only Shosuro, the Scorpion Clan Thunder, and Shinsei, survived to return to Rokugan with the Black Scrolls, in which Fu Leng's soul had been sealed by Isawa's magic during the battle.

Aftermath

Before succumbing to her wounds, Shosuro gave Kuni an account of the battle between the Thunders and Fu Leng, in the presence of Togashi-no-Kami. They kept the record secret, guarded. Shosuro's account was written in one of the Asako family cyphers by Lady Asako herself. Shinsei's plan was to buy time. Time for ‘Togashi's Duel.’ Time for the next Day of Thunder. The elements would fall out of balance, and a lost general will rise from death. The Hantei will be slain by his own blood, and those he most trusted would betray his legacy. The dragons will abandon the heartland, siblings will draw blades against each other, and when it has all come to pass, the Ninth will return to claim his birthright. But when the day will be darkest, seven thunders will be reborn from the Great Clans. They will decide the fate of a thousand years on the next Day of Thunder.
