The Dangerous Popinjay was an acclaimed historical Jidaimono play of the playwright Kakita Hiro. After his death it was revealed that Hiro had been blackmailed and forced to produce plays that were fed to him. In 1199 it was presented as a comedy, a farce, centered around a brash samurai named Kakita Kichiro who succeeded in spite of ineptness. [1]
