Courtiers
Courtiers were the politicians and higher civil servants of Rokugan. The Crane Clan was favored with great courtiers. [1] Their lords might give them tasks suited to artisans, performers, guides, diplomats, magistrates, seneschals, spymasters, [2] ambassadors, hatamoto, matchmakers, or sensei. [3]
Courts[]
In Rokugan, political struggles primarily took place in the courts of the Empire. Every daimyō and governor maintained a court in their castle, palace, or manor. They invited courtiers and artisans from other families and clans to attend and discuss important business, negotiate treaties and trade deals, and generally worked to increase the power and prestige of their lord through social maneuvering. The Imperial Court, hosted by the Emperor and the Jeweled Champions, was the greatest and most important court in the Empire. In the winter, it was called the Winter Court, which was held at a different noble's palace each year. [4]
