The Children of the Forest were those Kitsune Shugenja who had a dangerously strong connection to Chikushudo. They were taught techniques of self-control and spiritual harmony that would let these individuals find a balance between their human and animal sides. [1] They accomplished amazing feats through their pacts with the animal spirits of Chikushudo. [2]

From time to time descendants of Kitsune married with spirits in their human form displayed an instinctive communication with animals, showing strange physical affinities to the fox spirits, as green eyes, red or white hair, and even fur. In the early days of the Fox Clan these individuals often lost their humanity. [1]
