The Burning Sands was the name given to the area to the west of Rokugan, [1] from where sometimes hordes of enemies had appeared to attack the Empire. [2] The sorcerers there were known as sahir, and practiced name magic. [3] The Qamarist Caliphate was a gaijin Empire which ruled over this area. [4]
Places[]
There were many places in this area, such as the scorched plain of the Burning Sands proper which extened to the banks of the King's River in the lush valley of the Cradle of the World, the tallest mountains of the world known as the Pillar of the Sky, oases as the Hidden Valley, the Dead Lake, and many other places. The Burning Sands bordered with the Emerald Empire, the Ivory Kingdoms to the south, the Vyzantari Kingdom across the Conqueror's Sea, and the Bandar emirates across the Sea of Jewels. [1]
Ecology[]
Often shunned as an empty wasteland, the Burning Sands was varied in character and climate. During its brief rainy season, large parts of the desert bloomed with beautiful life. For the rest of the year, the Sands were the most desolate terrain in the world, full of dust storms and scorching heat. The only human life was a few scattered nomadic tribes and oasis cities. [1]
