Botan was a famous ronin poet who lived in the 5th century.
Traveling the Phoenix Road[]
In 467 Botan joined a group of monks of the Order of Ebisu who annually traveled the Phoenix land from festival to festival. He followed their pilgrimage for three years, attracted for the lure of song, drink, and women. In the wake of his adventures he published a book entitled The Phoenix Road, which became quite popular in the courts. Tourism in Phoenix lands increased dramatically. [1]
