Bayushi Tsuya was the Scorpion Clan Champion under the rule of Hantei XIII.
Clan Champion[]
Tsuya succeeded Bayushi Rikoji, the Champion who suspected Iuchiban's plot. [1]
The Lion's Shadow[]
Tsuya conquered Shiro no Meiyo in 518 and the stronghold was renamed Lion's Shadow. [2] The Lion Clan Champion, Akodo Ieyatsu, immediately set out to retake the castle and died in the unsuccessful attack. [3]
Heresy of the Five Rings[]
Some claimed Tsuya wanted to take more territory from the Lion and in 533 he attempted to conquer Kyuden Ikoma. [4] The Lion Clan was the main supporter of the monk and Imperial Advisor Gorinno, who had created the religious movement known as Five Rings, Five Clans. The monk was pursuing his own agenda, to merge in one Great Clan both the Scorpion Clan and the Crane Clan. Tsuya expected to undermine Gorinno's massive political influence by crushing the Lion Clan. The Scorpion army was defeated after a short siege, and retreated to The Lion's Shadow. [5]
Death[]
The Lion Clan Champion Akodo Kento counterattacked, and in the Battle of Kenson Gakka they reconquered Lion's Shadow, [5] executing every Scorpion in the stronghold (even peasants and children). Then Lion's Shadow was renamed Kenson Gakka (Humility's Lesson). [2] Tsuya committed seppuku shortly thereafter, and is succeeded by his daughter Bayushi Megumi. [5]
