Bayushi Hideari was the Scorpion Clan Champion during the rule of Hantei XX.
Great Famine[]
In 663 the Great Famine had caused several cities to riot, including Ryoko Owari Toshi, which the Scorpion barely kept under control. The Phoenix Clan Champion committed seppuku when he was unable to recover Toshi no Omoidoso from bandits, which was freed by the Imperial Legions. Hideari feared similar fate, so he hired Mantis mercenaries and diplomats to uncover the ringleaders of the riots. The bold movement saved the Scorpion from Imperial intervention but depleted the already weak Clan's treasury. [1]
Starvation[]
In 664 the Lion and Crab Clans were facing starvation. Hideari sent them food and backed both clans at court. Hideasi feared the Scorpion would attract them, so he appeased them to avoid an attack whose only purpose would be to feed their hungry people. The Crab already had attacked the Crane in the Rice War. Shortly after the Lion raided the Crane to seize supplies. [2]
