Battles of Rokugan (TCG)

The Battle of White Stag occurred when the Empress ended the two-year open trade agreement with gaijin people [2] from the distant kingdom of Pavarre, who refused to accept her edict. [3] The naval portion was known as the Battle of Raging Seas. [4]

Preamble[]

In the middle of the Fifth century gaijin ships entered the Bay of the Golden Sun and attempted to open trade and diplomatic relations with the Emerald Empire. [2] At first, the Empress Hantei Yugozohime [5] welcomed these visitors and gave them permission to reside in the capital Otosan Uchi and conduct trade, but after two years she abruptly declaring an edict oulawing such trade. [2]

Battle[]

The gaijin refused to accept this and attacked Otosan Uchi. The initial, terrific attack against the capital bolstered the Rokugani, who managed to defeat and drive off the gaijin ships. [2] This conflict became known as the Battle of White Stag, named for the cliffs from which vengeful samurai launched their counter attack. Those who managed to flee to their ships were confronted by the massed fleets of the Crane and Mantis Clans. The Empress herself had been killed during the attack, and no mercy was shown to the gaijin on Rokugan's soil. [6]

Aftermath[]

Agasha Kasuga helped the surviving gaijin to safely escape. He later was pardoned by the Emperor, who granted him and his followers Minor Clan status, the Tortoise Clan. [2] After Yugozohime’s death her successor issued an Imperial edict meant to safeguard the Emperor against a similar disaster, [7] forbidding trade or any direct contact with gaijin. [8]
