The Battle of Sunset Tower was fought in 1170 at Sunset Tower in the ruins of Otosan Uchi.

Quest

Chosai, the Dark Oracle of Fire tasked to Megumi to find and retrieve the Dark Covenant of Fire from the Sunset Tower.

Keepers warning

Kakita Tsuken, Keeper of Fire, had informed Kitsuki Berii about the location of the Covenant, and that a group of Lost were in the way. The Dragon assembled a group to take the nemuranai. Tsuken had been clear that Crane must not gain the Covenant. The Dragon, intent on keeping their purpose secret, lest others knew the location of the Covenant and sought it for themselves.

Crane involvement

Doji Doukohito got information about a tainted group who had sneaked into Rokugan. They knew their current location and marched to intercept them.

Battle

It began when Megumi's forces, Spider Clan samurai disguised as ronin, slaughtered the Tortoise guards of the Tower. The Crane appeared attacking the tainted group, but they were badly outmatched. There the Dragon found Crane and Spider forces fighting each other. Wanting to keep their purpose secret, the Dragon assaulted both groups. The battle ended in a Dragon victory.

Aftermath

It was not a great loss for the Crane, as Kakita Kensho-in accomplished her mission to kill Megumi. The battle was not a complete success for either clan, however, as several Crane and Dragon were killed, including Doji Doukohito and Mirumoto Agito. The Dragon did not explain which mission had been performed. After the battle Mirumoto Narumi, as a true Champion of Duty, agreed to be a hostage to the Crane in order to prevent further hostility between the two clans. The Tower was kept under Dragon protection despite the Tortoise objection. Mirumoto Ichizo offered himself to stay behind safeguarding it against any further attacks.
