The Asako family was one of the families of the Phoenix Clan, primarily scholars of the Tao. The Asako had a small order of monks to maintain their libraries and keep the Tao's greatest secrets hidden until the world was ready for its truth. [1] The family was created by Lady Asako, [2] and Morning Glory Castle was their ancestral seat of power. [3]

Duty[]

The Asako's purpose was to heal, [4] and the family also supplied most of the Phoenix Clan's courtiers and diplomats. [5] They were a quiet family, viewed as being content to follow their scholarly and philosophical pursuits. They prized knowledge, but they prized wisdom even more. The Asako served as courtiers for the Phoenix, and they were much in demand as court scholars and tutors across the Empire. [6] They were also fierce opponents of illegal magics, with some Asako secretly dedicated to rooting out and destroying these blasphemous practices. [7] The Asako family's study of supernatural practices and phenomena led them to become guardians against corruption inside the Phoenix Clan. In the third century that the Elemental Masters established the Asako Inquisitors as a persistent, and secret, safeguard against the spread of mahō and other forbidden magics in the Empire. [5]

Lands of the Asako[]

The provinces of the Asako were located mainly in the mountains in the northern and western portions of the Phoenix lands. These lands were rugged and largely infertile, meaning the Asako must depend on imported food and other goods, particularly from the Shiba. While Most of their holdings were located in serene and beautiful places in the mountains. They were connected by well-maintained roads. The Asako also maintained several holdings that outside the boundaries of the Phoenix lands, such as the Shrine of the Ki-Rin. [3]
