Asahina Yajinden was a shugenja artisan of the Crane Clan, and one of the first followers of the reviled sorcerer known as Iuchiban. [1]

Early Years[]

Yajinden was born in the fifth century, and became a brilliant smith and talented shugenja, among the greatest students of the Asahina ways ever to have lived. Although each of his creations was more excellent than the last, he was never satisfied with his own works and continually sought to push his skills to greater heights. [2]

Corrupted Blades[]

Eventually his exquisite work was noticed, and he was approached by a mysterious stranger who promised to help him unlock his true potential. [2] When Asahina Yanjiden unknowingly used Bloodspeaker rites taught to him by the disguised Iuchiban, he forged the infamous Bloodswords. [3] In the year 510 [4] Yajinden presented swords he had forged to the champions of the Crab, Crane, Lion, and Scorpion Clans. Soon afterward, the Lion Clan Champion launched a disastrous winter battle against the Dragon Clan, the Crab Clan Champion murdered his children, and the Crane Clan Champion confessed to a love affair in front of his entire court. [1] Abruptly he declared his love for a geisha. He slew her clients in a fit of passion, then killed his own family and threw himself from a cliff to his death. [2] All three took their lives due to these blades. Only the Scorpion Clan Champion escaped such a fate, soon revealing the smith's corruption, and the presence of the Bloodspeaker Cult. [1]

Death[]

Desperate to undo his mistake, Yajinden resolved to forge one final blade that would counter the other artifacts and end the evil he had unwittingly unleashed. However, he soon died under mysterious circumstances, the sword left unfinished. The Asahina took the blade and all the artifacts of his creation they could find, and sealed them deep beneath the Shinden Asahina temple. They removed Yajinden's name from the official genealogies, his existence becoming only a legend, the secret shame of the Asahina family. [2]

Aftermath[]

Iuchiban raised an army of the undead to march on Otosan Uchi. Thanks to the warning provided by the Scorpion Clan Champion, the Imperial Legions and the armies of the clans defeated the undead forces. [1]
