The Pale Oak Plain in the Aoijiroi province [1] was the place where Hantei XVII was buried, broking with tradition of cremation in a funeral pyre. It was where the Emperor's wife had been born in Phoenix lands. A great white oak tree grew where his ashes were buried, and a castle was built around the tree to protect it. The castle became known as the Pale Oak Castle. Many believed that the bark from the oak had healing powers. [2] [3] It was also the resting place elected by Naka Kuro. [4]
