An Ambassador was a person officially entitled by a daimyo or by the Emperor to represent him at another court. [1]
Immunity[]
This role implied bureaucracy and the exchange of favors over direct government An Imperial Ambassador constantly faced others of his station, matching wits against them or seeking favors from them. Ambassadors were typically courtiers, [2] but there had been numerous exceptions. They were usually given some level of relative immunity to be able to accomplish their tasks. The location, estate or building they used to conduct their daily business when they were not in court was generally called an Embassy. [citation needed]
