Akuma no Oni was an Oni Lord, one of the most powerful beings in the Shadowlands, created by Isawa Akuma, a Master of Earth. [1] The creature was easily recognized for his three eyes and three tongues. It had cost much to finally kill the creature, in a time that predated the completion of the Kaiu Wall. [2]

Akuma no Oni could conceal himself, muddling the mind of those who were around. The Oni Lord was capable of confusing the senses, forcing them to overlook him. [3]

Akuma no Oni
In 1123 Akuma no Oni raised an army of coordinated goblin, skeletons, and other corrupted minions. Each of them wore a trisected diamond mark. They assaulted and overrun the Watchtower of Sun's Shadow, killing its leader Hida Etsuji, who became one of its warbanners. [1] The oni lord's horde of Shadowlands monstrosities broke through the Kaiu Wall, overrun the Crab defenses, taking the Castle of the Forgotten and wounding the Crab Champion Hida Kisada, in a battle where Akuma’s forces multiplied with the rising of those defenders who died there. The horde marched northwest, to the Shinomen Mori, [4] where in the 14th day of the Month of Togashi they began the Battle of Cherry Blossom Snow against an assembled army of Rokugani forces. [5] The powers of the Yogo Jitte forced Akuma no Oni to reveal his presence in the battlefield, and the demon was confronted by prominent Rokugani leaders, such as Yoritomo, who was grievously wounded. In turn the peasant Katsu managed to damage Akuma with the bolt of a ballista, but the oni was powerful enought to kill the Dragon Clan Champion Togashi Yokuni himself. [6]
Temple of the Ninth Kami[]
During Akuma's campaign group of Rokugani found the Temple of the Ninth Kami and retrieved an account which recorded the prophecy that a next Day of Thunder will happen, and which Isawa Akuma had secured it on the temple. The Oni Lord existed in two places at once: his demonic form, and the body of the mortal that had surrendered his name. Akuma no Oni confronted the Master of Earth Isawa Tadaka through the possessed dead body of Isawa Akuma, while the rest of the group escaped with the account. [3] Isawa Akuma was distracted, as Akuma no Oni was at the same time battling the assembled armies of the Great Clans. [6]
Death[]
Akuma no Oni was eventually killed in personal combat by Shiba Tsukune, the Phoenix Clan Champion. [7]
