The Akodo family was the ruling family of the Lion Clan, and their members were regarded as calm and level tempered. [1] They were well known for their masterful tactical acumen, strategic knowledge, and strict adherence to Bushidō. The generals of the Akodo were the best in the Empire: as the adage goes, “No army led by the Akodo has ever known defeat.” [2] Castle Akodo was the seat of power of the Lion Clan. [3]
Details[]
Mon[]
The Akodo family mon was a reserved lion face, divided into two halves: one representing the tactical thinker, the other representing the martial spirit. [4]
Principled[]
The Akodo had a reputation as unyielding and overly principled, notoriously difficult to negotiate with. Famously, the Akodo trusted only outsiders they personally have fought in a contest, duel, or skirmish. The Akodo remembered all slights and let nothing slide. An Akodo might remind another samurai that their ancestor insulted the Lion centuries past— and followed up by challenging that samurai on the spot. [4]
Culture[]
The Akodo emphasized the group over the individual, teaching children from a young age to prioritize the greater needs of family. An Akodo's path was never chosen by themselves, but by their parents, their parents' advisors, their teachers, and their lord. And, some would insist, by their ancestors, whom the Akodo believed guided their every step. [4]
Tacticians[]
The Akodo family bore the name of the Lion Clan's founding Kami: Akodo One-Eye. According to all the tales, for a thousand years no Akodo general had ever lost a battle, bestowing the family with a reputation for invincible generals and brilliant tacticians in Rokugan. [5]
