Akiyoshi was the nickname used by the daughter of an Akodo who became a geisha after the Akodo family was disbanded. She posed as a male ronin during the Clan War and joined Toturi's Army.
Lion Ancestry[]
The girl who would be known as Akiyoshi was a young girl of the family betrothed to a powerful Matsu noble. During the Scorpion Coup in 1123, her three brothers died battling the Scorpion Clan. Her father committed seppuku to protest the Emperor's banishment of the Akodo. She was left alone, her future now uncertain. [1]
Kachiko's Geisha[]
She became a geisha of the Emperor's wife, Bayushi Kachiko. [2] In 1127 [3] she noticed the limp form of Doji Hoturi being carted into the dungeons. [1]
Dark Secret[]
Acting under Togashi Yokuni's orders she freed Hoturi from her mistress' clutches after he was replaced with the False Hoturi using the Egg of P'an Ku. [4] Wearing her fallen brother's armor and disguised as a ronin [2] she posed as a male samurai. [1] She delivered Hoturi to his friend and ally Toturi. [5] She said her name was Akiyoshi, but when Toturi first saw the ronin, he called the samurai by another name. [6]
Toturi's Army[]
Akiyoshi swore fealty to the Black Ronin, joining Toturi's Army during the Clan War. [7] The masked ronin accrued quite a reputation. The heimin regarded Akiyoshi as a hero, and she was known for such valorous acts as risking her life helping farmers to escape the Shadowlands Horde and severely punishing murderous bandits. Akiyoshi's true identity became a subject of legend. She had been given a second chance, and intended to make the best of it. [1]
