Ajari

Ajari

Ajari was a tengu and master illusionist.

Demeanor and Abilities[]

Ajari was a solitary tengu who haunted the wilderness surrounding the Mountain Song Temple for many years. From time to time, he visited the temple itself, disguising himself as a human monk or scholar and conversing with people there before returning to his solitary life. Ajari had an unusually powerful command of illusion magic for a tengu, allowing him to take on the appearance of a specific individual rather than only a generic human form. He was a capable fighter as well. His spiritual gifts also gave him a resilience that made healing easier if he was wounded. [1]

Conclave of the Brotherhood[]

In 1124 the Brotherhood of Shinsei held their annual conclave at the Mountain Song Temple under the hospitality of Mirumoto Daimyō Mirumoto Masashige, being its main agenda item a vote on whether to formally bestow the label of False Path on the Perfect Land Sect, with the risk to fall into a violent schism. [2]

Shinsei's Reborn[]

Senzai and Ajari

Ajari and Senzai

A peasant woman, Senzai, was approaching to the temple when she was attacked by Iwa, a sōhei, who badly injured the maiden. His long years of ascetic contemplation had given him a spiritual attunement that recognized the peasant as Shinsei's reborn, and quickly confronted the nun, carrying the maiden off in the direction of the peak. After this incident the Mountain Song had fallen silent. A group of samurai investigated the incident and found Ajari's lair. Eventually it was exposed that Senzai was the reincarnation of Shinsei, the Little Teacher. [3]
