Shiba Aika was a warrior maiden who had been born to a Shiba vassal family. She trained as a bushi in a ninor dōjō and became a guard in a higher-ranking samurai's retinue. The yōjimbō became the rōnin Aika when she refused to obey an order. Aika bore a daughter, Yanai, and raised her alone, because her husband abandoned Aika when she was outcast. Her daughter eventually left her behind to join the Tattooed Order, which would become known as Togashi Kazue. [1]
